Every day is different.........on this particular morning I headed to Bibra Lake again and spent the early hours photographing Egrets, Heron and Stilts. I was heading back to the car on my way to work, late again when a Barn Owl flew past followed by a whole lot of angry Crows, Willy Wags and Magpies all chasing it.  I had never seen a Barn Owl in the wild before.   It was incredibly beautiful so without a single thought I dropped my backpack and ran through the thick scrub in pursuit.  The crowd of angry birds chasing the owl were insistent and it flew a long way, landing a few times before quickly taking off again.  I managed to keep my eye on him with just a glimpse here and there through the bush.  This crazy chase continued for over half an hour through prickle bushes and spider webs and thick reeds until he landed in a dead tree and stayed.  The Crows, Willy Wags and Magpies had been left behind and there was only me, puffed out and dishevelled beneath the tree and him staring on with silent curiosity.  I got my breath back and the mood quietened.  I sat beneath that tree for a long time just looking at him.  Beautiful intelligent eyes, polka dot feathers and powerful talons.  I took a lot of images.  At some point I realised I was now extremely late for work and had absolutely no idea where I had dropped my backpack with the car keys in it.  I spent another forty minutes re-tracing my footsteps and looking in the scrub before I found it.  I learnt a couple of valuable things that day, the first was that you never know what is going to happen in life and the second was that it is best for me to keep the car keys zipped up in my jacket pocket.
